It starts deep. Not from the heart, not from anywhere you can detect—it just builds. Like a need to breathe, but you are caught breathless as it takes you. Suddenly you breathe in hard but slowly, lips curling over teeth, mouth opening ever so slightly. Then, it’s washing over you. Maybe a little grin forms and your eyes smile with that ignition of attraction and the idea of possibilities. Something triggered it: a line in a song; soft, fresh sheets; a sensual smile on someone’s Instagram that felt like it was just for you. It could be the memory of a stranger’s wink from years ago, it’s hard to predict, or seeing J.Lo tilt her head just so.Â
I remember listening to JoJo’s song “Edibles” and got set off after the line, “Damn, you got my footprints on the ceiling.” Boom, the next two minutes and 20 seconds left the top of my brain tingling. That raw mix of lust and excitement isn’t rational. Maybe you are in a relationship, or maybe they are—maybe they are a cartoon. Jessica Rabbit was just drawn that way, after all, but Kathleen Turner’s voice added a sizzle that both confused and delighted me. It’s all in your head, at least, right? Perhaps it’s a certain state of mind or a full moon that brings it out in us, who knows…I just hope it happens again soon.
