Late Night Real Estate: A Hollywood Bathroom in Michigan
This Detroit-area bathroom looks like listening to Lana Del Rey’s “Mariner’s Apartment Complex” sounds. In the running for Most Sexy Luxury Bathroom, 115 Lake Shore Drive is proof that hot glamour can stand up to even the frigid winds blowing off Lake St. Clair.
At 115 Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan stands a nearly perfect home. Yes, it’s Mid-Century Modern! Yes, it appears to be mostly untouched, thank god! But really it’s a cool, blush-pink canvas for old Architectural Digest dreams of roving off-white accordion sofas and lamps with seashell bases and other demure, sensual touches.
There are four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two half-baths, and a garage. It was built in 1953 and designed by Detroit-area architect Carl Habermas who dreamed up a handful of homes from Colonial to Art Deco from the 1930s-1960s. Aside from the bathroom, the best part of this home is that it plays around. In a living area, a wall juts out in a curve to put a cherub sculpture (just a thought!) on display and the staircase descends jauntily.
The lake-facing home was built originally for Stark Hickey, one-time “King of the Car Dealers” in Detroit. It was sold to a Mabel Slocum in 1962 and then, if Late Night Real Estate’s information is correct, we think it may currently belong to Dr. Taisja Tworek, a 90-year-old long-time resident of Gross Pointe. She was a medical examiner for years at the Wayne County Medical Examiners Office.
Opulence and comfort define Hollywood Regency, and you’ll have both of these in the form of halls of mirrors, metallic wallpapers, and a pink tub you’ll want to experience drama (the good kind!) in. Yours for $1,200,000. Check out the full listing here!
