Late Night Real Estate: A Classic American Home in O’Fallon, Illinois
Wow! Where WAS our real estate team the last few months? The Indoor Pool Real Estate Agency hasn’t shared a listing since January, which was 20 years ago emotionally speaking. It’s hard to get to the bottom of why this was. Where did we go? People are LOVING real estate lately, and the pandemic catalyzed an urgent appreciation for escapist homes shared with foaming mouths and tender stares. Time Capsule Homes, as one Facebook group is called. Maybe the admiration and yearning of America’s structures began to hit too close to, well, home. What was home supposed to look like? What is it supposed to look like now?
Either way, we’re just a real estate agency in the desert, and these are big questions. But sometimes it’s good to get, as they say, back to basics. At 5 Fox Run in O’Fallon, Illinois sits a classic American home. “Stunning architecture in O’Fallon!” the description starts off with, and it is a sort of mid-century situation. It is the third largest city in Southern Illinois, Sunset Boulevard actor William Holden was born there, a man died in a fight there about three weeks ago, and two weeks ago a college student debuted her senior show called “Black Magic” celebrating “what is special about Black women’s hair.” Some neighborly news!
5 Fox Run is sandwiched between Fairwood Lake and a therapist. The staid wood-and-brick exterior belies an airy interior with a circular (!) fireplace flanked by two sets of sliding glass doors. You’ll feel comfortable spending time in the kitchen with a garden window over the sink and a island for lengthly forearm resting. (There seems to be a multitude of ovens!) Whoever lives here now enjoys what can only be described as sunny touches like funky-looking butler statues and yellow directors chairs, so we here at the agency believe you’ll be moving into a happy home.
The formal dining is made for ferns and tufted chairs, and the bedrooms are simple with white walls and carpet. Dark-wood built-ins accent the basement and the master bedroom vanity, and speaking of the basement, things get a little funkier down there with a stone fireplace, carpet made to look like stones, and a giant plane mural. The backyard is bucolically Illinoian, and the pitcher on the patio is wearing a little dress. Last but not least, there is this photo of a flamingo and a smiley face.
