First things first, it is of the utmost importance that I credit this post to the one, the only, Annie Fichtner, Very Famous. Without her knack for finding unlikely dream places and things, I would have a lot less to marvel at—the Flamingo in Las Vegas, the perfect Laundry by Shelli Segal one-shoulder gown, a Florida Keys sweatshirt, Cat Cohen and Pat Regan’s Seek Treatment, many more things, and this Custom Dream home Late Night Real Estate is bringing to you by way of Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Custom Dream Waterbeds is a Dream Waterbed store you can live in for $89,900 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. There are some things we know, and some things we don’t know. We don’t know if Custom Dream Waterbeds is still in the business of waterbeds, though a 2015 EZads listing invited folks to come to the “bedder place” where Bob and Betty Williams have sold water beds since 1979. (“Two things are better on a waterbed,” an Aquarius ad once stated. “One of them is sleep.”)

Here’s what we do know: 908 Texas Ave. has been converted into a very open living space. Envision it as your own loft on the ground in Alamogordo—no bedrooms, three bathrooms, and wood paneling. It looks like possibly the store was being used as some combination of thrift shop and home—Late Night Real Estate spots some potential price tags on the nature-oriented oil paintings and glassware.

Betty passed away in April 2015, only a few months after Custom Dreams ran an ad in the local coupon paper. She had moved with her husband Robert from Little Rock, Arkansas, to Alamogordo in 1957 when he took a job at the White Sands Missile Range. Betty opened Lamar Beauty Shop in 1948 before getting into the waterbed business.

The building, constructed in 1920 according to the listing, is filled with ’70s charm—earth-brown carpet and green foliage wallpaper. You’ll be across the street from the Alamogordo Flower Company, a Lowe’s Signature Market, and Can’t Stop Smokin’ BBQ. Not to mention, you’re just 20 minutes from White Sands via US-70.
