Content Starts 2022: THE TREND REPORT!

Published by

Well well well…

Another year, another chance to be sexy, fun, wild ‘n’ free…How’s everyone feeling?

I’ll tell you, we here at Very Famous Inc. started this little trend report before it became a social media situation of what’s in and what’s out. In/out lists are very ‘90s magazine, though, which is cool and timeless. We just are a little annoyed that now it looks like we’re grabbing on to the tail end of a shooting star, but you know what’s out? Annoyance!

Anyhow, our list has no “outs” because you can sort those out for yourselves. If we were to guess about the atmosphere for 2022, it would look something like the booth in the back of a dimly lit restaurant. Think of each texture → the dark-red vinyl booth, your forearms on plastic wood, the collar of your satin blouse, a tabletop candle, a song (“Black Velvet”?) you know from the radio followed by a song you don’t, one or two people with you but maybe you arrived a few minutes early. The check is signed, the top-right corner wet from a drink ring, and you walk back out into the 4pm sun.

Here’s what we’re thinking for the year ahead:

~ SECRETS! This, we predict, will be big. Things have been too out-in-the-open, too digitally bright for some time now. It’s important to clarify we don’t exactly mean big, heavy secrets, though sometimes those can’t be helped. Instead, 2022 feels like a time for private moments between yourself or a very small handful of people. A secret here and there seems good for the psyche. No shame, just something delicate to keep close or a few phrases too ambiguous to parse out loud. For 2022, feel free to keep some things to yourself — or somewhere close by — to mull them over, to savor them, to just toss them around a little.

~ Local news (not necessarily “geographically local”)

~ Having our wacky personalities

~ Wackiness, more generally

~ Tiny figurines, shoes or maybe animals?

~Boutiques!! Intimate, velvety shopping is the moment. We wrote about this for “Fashion Corner” back in August, and it feels pertinent. Little oui-oui Lollia lotions, candles made by one of the boutique owner’s friends but also Voluspa Voluspa Voluspa (Baltic Amber), shabby-chic wood shelves, two gurls in the back, a BIG statement piece like the disco ball horse.

From Very Famous Contributing Editor Jasmine:

~ Disposable vapes

~ Tissue Boxes

~ Cheap dollar store ballpoint pens

~ Those Great Value cereal boxes with funny names (for example instead of Cinnamon Toast Crunch I got one that was called Delectable Cinnamon Squares lol)

Then, she sent me this phone note…

Lastly, Jasmine wrote this…

Might we be so lucky to move away from the maximalist, bombastic views of Instagram, that royal palace in which Queens carry their own crazed, painted, perfect heads tucked beneath their arms, towards a smaller scale set where your pores can be seen and once a day you can say something honest. This is a large request. So, if nothing else, let us poke fun at what we have popularized. Let the maximalism be satirical.

~ Playing

~ A (healthy) challenge

~ Landlines! They started to be in *emotionally* last year, but this year it’s physical!

~ Creating your own world

~ The atmosphere of late night radio / Smooth Jazz…This cover explains, in part, why… And this one.

~ Recitals →  This year is about personal performances for pleasure. One friend I know (keeping her name anonymous just in case she’s not ready to go public!) is planning a roller-skating show, and Very Famous Friend Mira, when hearing the word “recital” wrote me, “2022 vibes.” Correlating a bit with our secrets prediction, personal recitals for pleasure are an intimate way to express one’s self in front of a mirror, one other person, or a small dinner party.

~ Men! → In a way that makes sense, though…Admittedly, this partially came to me because of this shirt from Hollywood Gifts.

~ Tiny figurines, maybe shoes or animals…

~ The antique mall on your town’s main street

~ Anything not involving a screen

~ Unique party ideas

~ Sex, kind of

~ Self-publishing

~ DVDs

~ Big, wrinkled button-ups, could be Ralph Lauren or Jos. A. Bank

~ Department stores!!

~ Celebrations with messy white table cloths

 ~ The splits

~ Celebrity fashion lines

~ Poodles! Poodle art, especially.

~ A classic red purse

~ Wacky (sorry for using that word three times) lady branding like this coffee!

ALL IN BABY! Happy New Year, y’all <3
